sausage and lentil stew

3 italian sausages
1 cup lentils
0.5 tsp salt
tomato passata - about 200grams
fresh plum tomatoes - 3 or 4. chopped up
2 carrots - diced
1 yellow onion - chopped up
3 cloves of garlic - just crush
a little dash of soya sauce (very little...)
boil water and pour over the lentils to soak whilst frying the sausages
fry sausages until brown and remove from pan
add onions and garlic and fry gently
add carrots and continue to stir and fry
add plum tomatoes and tomato passata
pour over 250ml to 500ml boiling water - enough to cover the mixture
add back sausages (cut them up first)
simmer for 20-30 minutes until lentils are softened and mixture thickens slightly
