Roasting on iwatani portable stove
Start gas on high but not max. Gas mark 6 on indicator
May need to adjust if canister is getting empty
Rate of rise 20 C every 30 seconds till end of drying (approximately hitting 160C)
Then turn gas down to between 4 and 5 (solid line marking)
Rate of rise should drop to 13C per 30 seconds. Till you hear the first pop. Then wait for proper first crack (multiple pops happening quickly).
This should be at around 190C to 200C
Then add one minute to one min ten seconds to get end time.
Once you hit 200C turn down the heat a touch. Make sure temp continues to rise, slowly but constant rise. May need to vary pan height up if temp jumps quickly, then lower the pan down again. Don't leave the pan at a height or it will stall
Target is around 220C to 223C
Try to hit one min 10 sec without overshooting on temp. May need to modulate height of pan to maintain heat but not overshoot
